No disruption in EU’s financial support – Economy News
Murat YILMAZ / ANKARA
Ismail Raci Bayer, Director of the Department of European Union Investments of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, stated that the biggest share of the EU’s Pre-accession funds (IPA) in Turkey are absorbed by major environment and infrastructure investments and that 30 large scale investment projects with a total budget of 734 million euros are being implemented in provinces and districts throughout Turkey.
Some of the projects have been completed
Bayer stated that the IPA I period covers the budgetary years 2007-2013 and that the aim is to complete all of the projects that are financed under IPA I by the end of 2017. Bayer also noted that several new projects are in the negotiation phase to be financed under the IPA II period (2014-2020).
Director Bayer added that: "We are in the implementation period of the IPA I. Such infrastructure works are usually not acknowledged, however the cost of building them is substantial. As the municipalities largely attach importance to the visible structures, they tend to postpone high cost infrastructure works. We are trying to solve this issue working together with the municipalities and financing the infrastructure projects with grants. "
