EU Environment and Climate Action Sector Operational Programme

The financial aid granted by the European Union to Turkey has ben renewed in April 2016 under the name of Environment and Climate Action Sector Operational Programme (ESOP). This financing of 335,4 million Euro within the framework of Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance II (IPA II) will be granted through this programme covering the period between 2014 – 2020.

What is aimed with ESOP is to fight against the climate changes with higher quality resources, to ensure the progression of the harmonization of Turkey with EU acquis concerning the European Union (EU) climate change policy, to protect the environment and to improve the quality of life of the citizens.

Objectives of ESOP:

  • Ensuring the accessibility of environmental infrastructures with the objective to provide substantial contribution in the sustainable development of the country.
  • Protecting the nature in order for providing benefits to the society.
  • Improving the quality of life of the citizens by means of enhancing the accessibility of the citizens to the growing resistance against climate changes.

These three objectives will be achieved through 3 main actions as follows:

  • Action 1: Water
  • Action 2: Waste
  • Action 3: Environmental Management for a Sustainable Development
