Within the framework of the COP30 meetings held in Belém, Brazil, Deputy Minister Ms. Fatma Varank participated in the “Ministerial Meeting on Multilevel Climate Action on Urbanization and Climate Change – High-Level Closing Session” and delivered a speech.
In her remarks, Ms. Varank addressed the devastating impacts of climate change in Türkiye and across the world, outlining the concrete steps taken by our country to tackle these challenges. She shared Türkiye’s vision in the fields of environment and urban development, emphasizing the importance of the 2053 Net Zero Emissions target, the Climate Law, urban transformation efforts, the Zero Waste Movement, and investments in energy efficiency.
Ms. Varank also highlighted that the establishment of the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in Istanbul will further strengthen Türkiye’s global role in sustainable urbanization and recalled Türkiye’s candidacy to host COP31 in 2026.
