Mehmet Emin Birpınar, Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, attended the Ministerial Meeting on Implementation of Climate Actions held in Copenhagen.
Mehmet Emin Birpınar, Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, represented Turkey at the Implementation of Climate Actions Ministerial Meeting held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. The meeting consisting of four sessions “Adaptation to Climate Impacts”, “Emission Reduction and Keeping 1.5 Degrees Alive”, “Preventing, Minimizing and Covering Loss and Damage” and “Moving Finance!” under the headings.
He Explained Turkey's Climate Policies
Speaking at the sessions, Birpınar shared the need for long-term and determined policies to combat climate change and adapt to the effects of climate change, and shared Turkey's fight against climate change with the participants. Mentioning that after Turkey signed the Paris Agreement, its institutional structure on climate change was strengthened and the Ministry of Climate Change was established, Birpınar talked about the climate strategies and action plans put forward by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change under the umbrella of the green development move.
Developing Countries One Link in the Chain
Stating that the transition processes of developing countries to green economy should be supported, Birpınar emphasized that all links of the chain should be strengthened and supported with financial and technical assistance for the total fight against climate change. Mentioning that we are at a critical point to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, Birpınar stated that it is of vital importance to close the emission reduction gap by 2030. Birpınar pointed out that supporting developing countries in finance, technology and capacity building is of critical importance in achieving the 1.5 degree target.
Emphasizing the importance of the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, Birpınar underlined the importance of cooperation in technology development and transfer.
