Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, H.E. Fatma Varank, held a meeting in New York with Mr. Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for the Environment and Climate of Germany.

During the meeting, Turkey’s bid to host COP31 was highlighted. H.E. Varank underlined that Turkey is proceeding with determination and ambition in this process, expressing that they would be pleased to cooperate with Germany.

Turkish-German Climate and Environment Steering Committee to Convene in Ankara for the Second Time

H.E. Varank noted that since 2007, bilateral environmental and climate cooperation projects have been carried out under the framework of the “Turkish-German Environment Steering Committee,” which was transformed into the “Turkish-German Climate and Environment Steering Committee” through the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Dubai. She recalled that the Committee’s second meeting is planned to take place in Ankara on October 22, stating: “We see this Committee as a symbol of the cooperation between the two countries in achieving common goals in climate and environment.”

H.E. Varank also referred to Turkey’s 2053 Net Zero Emissions target, the forthcoming Climate Law, and the Zero Waste Movement, stressing that these initiatives present a strong vision for Turkey in the COP31 process.
