Deputy Minister Mr. Ceylan attended Şanlıurfa opening ceremony.

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Urbanization Mr. Mehmet Ceylan attended the opening and ground breaking ceremony of the Şanlıurfa Waste Water Project on April 26th. In his opening speech he said that this 100-million TL project will serve 800.000 Şanlıurfa citizens. “The fertile lands of Urfa, which is the biggest centre of agriculture in Turkey, will be cleaner, more productive and more fertile by means of this project,” he said. The Şanlıurfa Waste Water Treatment Plant and Collector Lines Project is being implemented under the management of the Department of the European Union Investments (DoEUI) of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Director of the DoEUI Mr. Ferruh Parmaksız, European Union (EU) Commissioner Mr. Johannes Hahn and Mayor of Şanlıurfa Mr. Nihat Çiftçi.

Commissioner Hahn mentioned that this project will ensure EU standards and will improve water quality, which will be an important step towards bettering the living standards of citizens in the area. Mayor Çiftçi underlined the importance of the project by mentioning that waste water treatment will ensure sanitation and healthier living conditions. The overall budget of the project is approximately 29 million Euro and it is being funded by national and EU funds under the IPA Programme.
