Deputy Minister Varank accepted Iraqi Deputy Minister of Environment Dr. Jassim Abdelaziz Hammadi

Deputy Minister Ms. Fatma Varank accepted Iraqi Deputy Minister of Environment Dr. Jassim Abdelaziz Hammadi and his accompanying delegation in her office.

An official delegation headed by Iraqi Deputy Minister of Environment for Technical Affairs Dr. Jassim Abdelaziz Hammadi visited Türkiye last week in order to see Türkiye’s smart city practices and experiences for the development of municipalities’ capacities.

The Undersecretary of the Prime Minister Responsible for Digital Transformation, municipal officials from many cities in Iraq, especially Baghdad, the Ministry of Construction and Settlement, and officials responsible for traffic attended this unique visit organized by the Higher Institute for Training Senior Public Officials established within the Iraqi Prime Ministry General Secretariat.

Our Director General for European Union and Foreign Relations Mr. İsmail Tüzgen and Department Head Mr. Ali Erhan Yılmaz also attended the inter-delegation meeting chaired by Deputy Minister Ms. Fatma Varank.

In order to see the most up-to-date applications on smart and sustainable cities, visits were made in Konya, Ankara and Istanbul.

Dean of the Higher Institute for Training Senior Public Officials, Dr. Abdelkarim Kazem Ujail, stated that the main purpose of the one-week trip, which was organized in cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), was to see the most up-to-date applications on smart and sustainable cities on site, and that they made visits in leading cities in Türkiye such as Konya, Ankara and Istanbul, which implement advanced systems in urban management.

In order to realize sustainable development and increase the adequacy of municipal services, this visit, which envisages implementing the successful practices recorded by Türkiye in the field of smart cities in Iraqi cities, also aimed to benefit from the experiences in the countries of the world within the framework of the vision of the high institute regarding the training of senior public officials in Iraq.
