The Detection and Remediation of Sites Contaminated by Persistent Organic Pollutants Project, carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change together with the UN Development Program (UNDP), has been completed.
The five-year project carried out by UNDP with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change against persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which pose threats that affect human health and the environment for a long time, has ended. Within the scope of the project financed by the European Union IPA II fund and the Republic of Türkiye, hundreds of people were trained on the management of contaminated sites in accordance with EU standards.
Studies were carried out in 81 provinces
The project is designed to ensure that Türkiye has the expertise and skills it needs to deal with the issue of POPs contaminated sites, in line with the EU's 2019 "POPs Regulation and Soil Pollution Strategy". In this context, 17 trainings, 10 workshops and 4 consultation meetings were held in 81 provinces with the participation of 698 people. The training focused on the management of contaminated sites in accordance with EU standards.
Bridge Between Türkiye and Europe
The General Directorate of EU and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change led the implementation of hundreds of projects in Türkiye with IPA I, II and III funds. The General Directorate became a bridge between Türkiye and the European Union with a total environmental investment of 1 billion Euros during the IPA I and IPA II periods. The value of the “Detection and Remediation of Sites Contaminated by Persistent Organic Pollutants Project” is 2 million Euros.
