First Lady Emine Erdoğan and United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres signed a declaration of goodwill to promote the "Zero Waste Project" around the world.
First Lady Emine Erdoğan, accompanying President Erdoğan in New York, USA, to attend the 77th UN General Assembly, met with UN Secretary General Guterres. The two names signed the “Global Zero Waste Goodwill Statement” at the UN Headquarters in New York as part of the fight against the climate crisis. In this context, it was stated that First Lady Emine Erdoğan will lead the global leadership of the work aimed at zero waste under the umbrella of the UN.
Guterres, who stated that they followed the zero waste efforts led by First Lady Emine Erdoğan with appreciation, said, "Societies have started to produce a lot of waste. Waste is a vital problem for today. The Zero Waste Project that you have done in this sense is very valuable and impressive. It is a great pleasure to meet with you in this context. I'm happy. You're at home, welcome." used the phrases. Guterres called on UN countries to expand Türkiye's Zero Waste Project globally, within the scope of the environmentalist project, which is among the most important issues the UN is struggling with.
Addressing Guterres, First Lady Emine Erdoğan said, "The text we will sign with you today reveals our common intention in this sense. I hope that the number of signatures under this statement, which we will sign the first two of, will increase. In this direction, I wish Zero Waste to be spread globally." said. Explaining the steps Türkiye has taken within the framework of the Zero Waste Project since 2017, First Lady Emine Erdoğan emphasized that the project is supported by all segments in Türkiye and raises international awareness.
