International Zero Waste Forum Concludes in Istanbul

The International Zero Waste Forum, held in Istanbul under the theme “Zero Waste Movement: People, Place, Transformation,” concluded with a series of events and sessions.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mr. Murat Kurum carried out an intensive round of diplomatic meetings throughout the forum. Mr. Kurum met with Bashir Mohamed Jama, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia; Dr. Shina Ansari Hamedani, Vice President of Iran and Head of the Department of Environment; Slaven Radunovic, Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property of Montenegro; Doumbia Mariam Tangara, Minister of Environment, Sanitation and Sustainable Development of Mali; Mohammed Anjarani, Minister of Local Administration and Environment of Syria; Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President and Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan for Climate Change; Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia; Aziz Abdukhakimov, Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan; and Ruslan Edelgeriev, Special Presidential Envoy of Russia for Climate Change.

During the meetings, the parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in areas such as zero waste practices, climate change mitigation, environmental management, sustainable urbanization, and circular economy, and exchanged views on joint projects and best practices.

Following the forum, Minister Murat Kurum stated, “We take pride in the fact that our Zero Waste Movement has become a groundbreaking global initiative in people-centered diplomacy.”
