Organized by the Zero Waste Foundation in cooperation with the United Nations, the International Zero Waste Forum began in Istanbul with the participation of Her Excellency Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Honorary Chairperson of the Zero Waste Foundation.

The forum, which opened with the session titled “Zero Waste as a Global Mission,” will continue for three days under the theme “People, Space, Transformation.”

Held in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN-Habitat, the event brings together participants from 104 countries, 118 international organizations, mayors, ambassadors and senior representatives from institutions such as the UN, UNEP, UNDP and UN-Habitat.

With the active participation of the Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Affairs, the forum will address global cooperation in areas such as environment, sustainability, circular economy, green transformation, waste management and combating climate change.

“Zero Waste has set a new milestone worldwide”

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mr. Murat Kurum emphasized that the Zero Waste movement, initiated under the auspices of Her Excellency Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, has evolved into a global environmental and humanitarian initiative. Minister Kurum stated, “With the Zero Waste movement, which is the key to a sustainable world, we have set a new milestone globally. The journey that began in 2017 has now grown into a worldwide movement leaving its mark on all seven continents.”
