The kick-off meeting for Konya Solid Waste Management Project, which is funded by the European Union (EU) Commission and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, was held in Konya on December 19, 2014.
The meeting witnessed the participation of Mr. Tahir Akyurek, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Mr. Ferruh Parmaksız, Head of Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Department of EU Investments, Ms. Asuman Özaltay, EU Delegation to Turkey Sector Manager, as well as the representatives of the contractor and the consultant firms
It was underlined during the meeting that it is planned to finalize the construction works within the scope of the project within two (2) years, twenty five (25) hectares of the Aslım Solid Waste Landfill currently in use is to be rehabilitated; sanitary solid waste landfill, solid waste transfer station and solid waste leachate treatment facility are to be constructed, the equipment and heavy equipment to be used in these facilities are to be purchased within the scope of the project.
The contract of the project is signed with the contractor firm on October 14, and the duration is envisaged as twenty four (24) months. 72% of the project budget is to be borne by the EU, 9% by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and 19% by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality.
