Minister Meets with World Bank Turkey Director Kouame   

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum met with World Bank Turkey Director Auguste Kouame.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat KURUM held a bilateral meeting with World Bank Turkey Director Auguste KOUAME on the second day of the Climate Council in Konya. They discussed projects to be carried out within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on October 22nd, 2021 to support the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, and how existing financing could be expanded. Within the scope of the project packages to be developed by the World Bank for local governments, the issues of electric micro-vehicles, micromobility, increasing municipal practices in renewable energy and walking and cycling routes were discussed.

Support for Green Financing

Auguste Kouame informed Minister Murat Kurum about the projects, stating that they are developing projects for municipalities bordering the Marmara Sea in order to solve the mucilage problem. Kouame underlined that banks such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) can play a leading role in supporting other banks to increase green finance opportunities.

Minister Murat Kurum said in a statement after the meeting that "at our meeting, we discussed the projects that can be done within the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding we signed to support the implementation of the Paris Agreement and how green financing can be expanded."
