Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum attended the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya, by video message. Underlining that the United Nations Environment Programme has always led the way in promoting environmental governance, increasing participation and addressing global crises with a result-oriented approach, Murat Kurum stated that UNEP has always managed to bring humanity together against environmental problems. Stating that the Barcelona Convention, which turkey chairs, is one of the most important examples of this success, the Institution said: "Together we reach out to our Mediterranean, which faces many negatives caused by climate change and pollution. Because we are the only country with coasts to the Mediterranean and Black Sea; during the previous period of our Office Presidency; We have carried out successful regional activities concerning both our seas. Now, during this period when we are the Bureau President, we will do our work; Our Zero Waste Project, which we carried out under the auspices of our president's wives, Mr. Emine Erdogan, which is now awarded global awards; innovative infrastructure and nature conservation activities; Our National Gardens, which is the new generation green space concept; our high commitment to the circular economy; It will also make a huge contribution to achieving the basic objectives of the Paris Climate Agreement."
"We will share the results of the Climate Council with UNEP and other countries"
In his celebratory message, the Minister also mentioned the Climate Council organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change for the first time in Turkey and stated that they will share the results of the council to be announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with UNEP and other countries. "I firmly believe that the decisions we will share with you will become a global contribution to strengthening the link between politics and action," it said.
"It is our common duty to leave a livable world for future generations"
Noting that it is everyone's duty to leave a livable world for future generations, the Minister said, "The way to stick to this duty is to turn our high awareness into permanent actions.
