Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mr. Murat Kurum met with Mr. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The meeting took place at the Ministry. Deputy Minister Ms. Fatma Varank, Head of Climate Change Department Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, and Director General for European Union and Foreign Relations Mr. İsmail Tüzgen were also present. During the meeting, Türkiye’s priorities within the scope of the “2053 Net Zero Emission Target Based on Green Growth” were conveyed.
Commenting on the visit, Minister Murat Kurum stated:
“We reiterated our determination regarding our candidacy to host COP31 next year and expressed our belief that our COP31 bid is a significant opportunity to place the green transformation objective at the center. I would like to thank Mr. Stiell for this fruitful meeting and for his constructive engagement with our country in both the COP process and other related initiatives.”
