“Azerbaijan, Brazil and Türkiye Are Bringing Together Our Presidency Experience”

As part of the preparations for COP31, our Minister, Mr. Murat Kurum, met in Istanbul with Mr. Yalçın Rafiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and COP29 Lead Negotiator; Mr. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; and Mr. André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30.

During the meeting, preparations for COP31 were discussed in detail, and it was agreed to strengthen coordination among the presidencies, align processes, and establish a working framework focused on delivering concrete outcomes.

In his statement following the meeting, our Minister Mr. Murat Kurum said:

“As part of the COP31 preparations, Azerbaijan, Brazil and Türkiye are bringing together our presidency experience. In this context, we met with Mr. Yalçın Rafiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and COP29 Lead Negotiator; Mr. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; and Mr. André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30. During our meeting, where we discussed the preparations for COP31 in detail, we established a working framework focused on strengthening coordination among the presidencies, aligning processes, and delivering concrete outcomes. Taking into account all pillars, including mitigation, adaptation and finance, we are working in parallel with the action agenda. At COP31, Türkiye will be at the heart of the solution.”
