Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and COP31 President, attended the opening of the “Türkiye’s Road to COP31: Resilient Cities” program held in Hatay.
Speaking at the program, where climate change, disaster management and urban resilience were among the main topics discussed, Mr. Murat Kurum shared Türkiye’s vision for COP31. Emphasizing that the Hatay program represents one of the most meaningful reflections of Türkiye’s climate and urbanization vision on the ground, Minister Murat Kurum stated: “I hope that this call rising from Hatay, which we are rebuilding together with its history and culture, will serve as a guiding light for the common future of our country, our region and humanity.”
As part of the Hatay program, Minister Murat Kurum also held a bilateral meeting with S. Abdul Awal Mintoo, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Bangladesh. During the meeting, with Hatay — a symbol of post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction — at the center of discussions, the parties exchanged views on resilient cities, combating climate change, sustainable urbanization and shared goals regarding the COP31 process.
