COP31 President Mr. Murat Kurum Attended the Antalya Diplomacy Forum

The Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and COP31 President, Mr. Murat Kurum, attended the panel titled “Towards COP31” at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

In his speech at the panel “Towards COP31: Strengthening Climate Action in a Period of Geopolitical Transformation,” Minister Murat Kurum stated that during the COP31 Presidency process, they would work to further advance the decisions taken by previous COP presidencies in addressing the climate crisis. Mr. Kurum said: “We have determined the action agenda in this regard. In other words, we will take steps to reduce the impacts of climate change in line with our 2053 Net Zero Emissions Target. From renewable energy to Zero Waste projects, from climate-resilient cities to the sustainable growth of industry within the framework of sustainability, we will present many key topics to the whole world to meet global expectations.”

Regarding the green energy agenda of COP31, Minister Murat Kurum emphasized that clean energy would be made one of the top priorities of COP31 and noted that they are working on this process in cooperation with the International Energy Agency.

Speakers at the panel included UN Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Climate Action Mr. Selwin Hart, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev, Brazil’s Climate Envoy and COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago, and President of the French Constitutional Council and COP21 President Laurent Fabius.

As part of his Antalya program, Minister Murat Kurum also met with former President of Croatia, Ms. Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. In his statement regarding the meeting, Mr. Kurum said: “We discussed opportunities for joint work and areas of cooperation within the COP31 process.”
