Head of the UN-Habitat Executive Office Erfan Ali Visits Director General İsmail Tüzgen

Director General for EU and Foreign Affairs H.E. İsmail Tüzgen held a meeting with H.E. Erfan Ali, Head of the UN-Habitat Executive Office. Deputy Director General H.E. Ali Erhan Yılmaz was also present at the meeting.

The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Türkiye and UN-Habitat, the vision and priorities of the planned UN-Habitat Regional Office in Istanbul, as well as sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient urbanization. The meeting also addressed the role of cities in climate action within the COP31 process, Türkiye’s 2053 Net Zero Emissions Target, post-disaster reconstruction efforts, circular economy policies, and potential joint projects under the Zero Waste Initiative.

Türkiye’s commitment to the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals was underlined, and it was noted that the Istanbul Regional Office would make a significant contribution to regional cooperation in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
