Minister Murat Kurum Attended the Bonn Climate Conference

H.E. Murat Kurum, President of COP31 and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye, attended the 64th Session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Bonn, Germany.

Addressing representatives from more than 50 countries during the conference, Minister Kurum emphasized the importance of strong international cooperation and collective determination to achieve global climate goals. He noted that discussions focused on steps to bridge negotiations with implementation in the lead-up from COP30 to COP31, as well as the key agenda items for COP31. Minister Kurum also stated that the main framework of the COP31 Action Agenda would be shared.

As part of his engagements in Bonn, Minister Kurum held meetings with H.E. Chris Bowen, Minister for Climate Change and Energy of Australia, Mr. Marcos Neto, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, and representatives of the Russian Federation on climate matters. The discussions focused on the priorities of the COP31 Action Agenda, preparations for the summit, and areas of cooperation that can deliver concrete outcomes in climate negotiations.

During the meetings, participants underscored that the negotiations conducted in Bonn provide an important foundation for the decisions to be taken at COP31. They highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue to strengthen implementation, enhance international cooperation, and achieve outcomes that respond to the priorities of all parties.
