Minister Murat Kurum Delivers “Resilient Cities” Message for COP31 at WUF13
COP31 President and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of Türkiye, Murat Kurum, attended the opening session of the 13th World Urban Forum held in Baku on behalf of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Speaking to members of the press during the forum, Minister Murat Kurum emphasized that “Resilient Cities” will be one of the main agenda items of COP31 and underlined Türkiye’s goal of making the Antalya summit an “Implementation COP.” Kurum stated, “We want a COP that says ‘Stop’ to the world’s current negative trajectory. We want a COP where decisions are implemented and turned into concrete action.”
As part of the forum, Minister Murat Kurum held bilateral meetings with Oman’s Minister of Housing and Urban Planning Khalfan Al Shueili, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majid Al Hogail. During the meeting with Azerbaijan, a Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation in Energy Efficiency in Buildings was signed, and the establishment of a joint working group on energy efficiency was agreed upon.
Minister Kurum also stated that cooperation with Azerbaijan, the host of COP29, will continue throughout the COP31 process, emphasizing that Türkiye and Azerbaijan will maintain joint efforts in line with regional peace, security, and sustainability goals.
Minister Murat Kurum additionally visited the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change’s exhibition stand at the forum area and reviewed the projects carried out within the scope of the Reconstruction Campaign of the Century.
