Minister Murat Kurum Held COP31 and Urban Development Cooperation Talks in China

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum met with China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong and Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu in Beijing, the capital of China.

The meetings focused on cooperation in the fields of COP31, urban development, housing policies, urban transformation and smart cities. The two sides also agreed to establish a joint working group on housing and urbanization and to sign a memorandum of understanding between Türkiye and China.

Minister Murat Kurum shared Türkiye’s experience gained through the “reconstruction mobilization of the century” in the earthquake-hit region and the country’s vision for disaster-resilient urbanization with the Chinese side. During the meeting with Minister Huang Runqiu, the parties also discussed opportunities for cooperation within the COP31 process, particularly in the areas of climate action, access to finance and sustainable environmental goals.
