Our Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Mr. Murat Kurum, met with the European Union Climate Commissioner, Mr. Wopke Hoekstra, in Brussels within the scope of the Third Turkey-EU High-Level Climate Dialogue.

Following a bilateral meeting, inter-delegation talks were held. The discussions addressed Türkiye’s roadmap in combating the climate crisis, the efforts carried out in line with the 2053 Net Zero Emissions target, the enacted Climate Law, the preparations for the Emissions Trading System and the Green Taxonomy. Issues such as climate justice, the inclusiveness of a just transition, and Türkiye’s strategically significant candidacy for COP31 were also on the agenda.

Deputy Minister Ms. Fatma Varank, President of Climate Change Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, and our Director General of EU and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ismail Tüzgen, attended the inter-delegation meeting.

Following the talks, our Minister stated: “I thank Commissioner Hoekstra for this fruitful meeting. I hope for stronger cooperation between Türkiye and the EU in the fields of environment and combating climate change. We will continue to work on every platform for a fairer order where no one is left behind.”
