The 19th Session of the Türkiye-Russia Intergovernmental Joint Economic Commission (JEC), held in Moscow with the aim of enhancing economic and trade relations between Türkiye and Russia, has brought new momentum to the strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of Türkiye, Mr. Ömer Bulut, who co-chaired the meeting along with Minister of Trade Mr. Ömer Bolat and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mr. Alexander Novak, also delivered a speech during the session.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Mr. Ömer Bulut emphasized the close cooperation between the two countries, stating that Turkish-Russian relations have been developing in a way that contributes to regional stability on the basis of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and common interests. He also underlined that the trust-based dialogue established between the leaders strongly supports this process.

Joint Steps in Climate Change and Urban Development

With the JEC Protocol signed during the meeting, both sides expressed their intention to cooperate in many areas, including wastewater management, circular economy, zero waste policies, biodiversity, and the fight against climate change.

A New Memorandum of Understanding on the Way

Deputy Minister Mr. Bulut also announced that preparations are underway for a new Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries in the field of environmental protection. The agreement is expected to target cooperation on numerous topics such as combating climate change, zero waste, biodiversity conservation, and combating desertification.

Russian Support for Türkiye’s COP31 Candidacy

Recalling Türkiye’s candidacy to host the COP31 Climate Summit in 2026, Mr. Bulut expressed his appreciation for Russia’s support during this process.

Highlighting that Türkiye is ready to share its experience in city planning, urban development, housing, and public services, Mr. Bulut concluded his speech by thanking all participants.
