Our Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ms. Fatma Varank, attended the Turkish-German Climate and Environment Steering Committee meeting held at the Ministry of Economy and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The importance of strong cooperation between the two countries in every field was emphasized at the meeting chaired by Mr. Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Türkiye is determined to reach net zero emissions in 2053

Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Varank touched upon Türkiye’s determination to reach net zero emissions in 2053 and said, “As Türkiye, we continue to take very important steps in the fight against climate change through public institutions and organizations, local governments, NGOs and the private sector. Especially after our country became a party to the Paris Agreement, our President announced the 2053 Net Zero Emission target. Türkiye is taking determined steps towards the net zero emissions target in 2053.”

Important steps are being taken on a sectoral basis

Stating that Türkiye will announce its Long-Term Climate Strategy at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Baku in November, Ms. Varank noted that important steps continue to be taken with strategy plans developed on a sectoral basis. Ms. Varank said, “The National Energy Plan, Energy Efficiency Action Plan, Low Carbon Roadmaps in Industry, Circular Economy Action Plan, Decarbonization Roadmap in Buildings, Green Deal Action Plan, National Employment Strategy can be shown as examples of these.”

Ms. Varank said, "National Energy Plan, Energy Efficiency Action Plan, Low Carbon Roadmaps in Industry, Circular Economy Action Plan, Decarbonization Roadmap in Buildings, Green Deal Action Plan, National Employment Strategy can be given as examples."
