Our Minister, Mr. Murat Kurum held a meeting with Australian Minister of Climate Change and Energy Mr. Chris Bowen via video conference. During the meeting, consultations were held on COP29, which will be held in Baku in November, and ideas were exchanged for hosting COP31.

Our Minister Mr. Murat Kurum met with Australian Minister of Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen regarding the presidency process of the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which is likely to be held in 2026. Deputy Minister Ms. Fatma Varank, Head of Climate Change Prof. Dr. Mr. Halil Hasar and our Director General of European Union and External Relations Mr. İsmail Tüzgen were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, ideas were exchanged on the studies carried out on the candidacy of both countries to host COP31 and possible cooperation. Stating that Turkey attaches importance to hosting COP31 like Australia, Mr. Murat Kurum said, "We sincerely believe that COP31 will strengthen our country's successful work on climate change. As Türkiye, we believe that climate change is now a matter of national security. We work with the belief that adaptation to climate change is a green development initiative for our country. In this sense, as Türkiye, we want to bring together all parties in our country and let everyone see Türkiye’s fight against climate change on site.”
