The 2nd Session of the UN Habitat Assembly was held at the UN campus in Nairobi, Kenya. Mrs. Emine Erdoğan sent a video message to the meeting where representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change took part.
The 2nd Session of the UN Habitat Assembly started with the theme “A Sustainable Urban Future Through Inclusive and Effective Multilateralism: Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Times of Global Crisis”. On the second day of the meeting, a high-level dialogue meeting on “Women Shaping Cities and Communities” was held with the participation of UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif and female guests. Mrs. Emine Erdoğan sent a video message to this meeting.
Emphasizing the great importance of such a meeting in the days when the majority of the world's population is condemned to live in settlements that have lost their relationship with nature, Mrs. Emine Erdoğan pointed out that urban wastes have reached dimensions that nature cannot dispose of and are gradually turning into a global threat. Mrs. Emine Erdoğan stated that great steps have been taken to save nature from wastes that it cannot dispose of, but that the road is long in an age where consumption has become an objective, and that she believes that the real striking change will take place when a lifestyle that moves away from the "disposable culture" and produces almost no waste is adopted, and that the spread of the "Global Zero Waste" movement shows that the days of adopting this lifestyle are not far away.
