Deputy Minister Fatma Varank met with Catherine Chabaud, France’s Minister for the Sea and Fisheries, on the margins of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP24) in Cairo, Egypt.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Varank highlighted Türkiye’s climate policies, noting that the country’s first Climate Law, adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, entered into force in July 2025, and that Türkiye submitted its Second Nationally Determined Contribution to the Secretariat during the COP30 process.

Drawing attention to the global impact of the Zero Waste movement, Deputy Minister Varank stated: “The Zero Waste Initiative has become a leading model for reducing waste at its source and increasing recycling.”

Emphasizing Türkiye’s commitment as the host and Presidency of COP31, Deputy Minister Varank expressed Türkiye’s willingness to maintain close contact and develop joint efforts with France, saying: “We attach great importance to building a strong partnership for sustainable solutions towards a resilient planet.”
