Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ms. Fatma Varank, once again emphasized Türkiye’s determination to combat climate change at the Pre-COP29 meeting held in Brazil. Speaking in two separate sessions, Ms. Fatma Varank stated the importance of updating the ambitious Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to achieve the Paris Agreement targets.
Deputy Minister, Ms. Varank, drew attention to the results of the Global Stocktake (GST), and emphasized that the activation of cooperative approaches and market mechanisms within the scope of Article 6 will play a critical role in terms of climate finance. Referring to Türkiye’s determination to establish a national jurisdiction and develop transparent registration systems in this process, Ms. Varank stated that COP29 will be an important step in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
