Our Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mr. Murat Kurum attended the World Chambers Federation (WCF) Europe and Asia Summit hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye in Istanbul. In his speech, Minister Mr. Murat Kurum emphasized Turkey's determination in combating climate change.
In his speech here, Minister Mr. Murat Kurum stated that Türkiye carries out its climate policies with an open and participatory approach and that a new roadmap was drawn with the Climate Council held in 2022. Stating that the private sector plays a critical role in climate policies, Murat Kurum explained that greenhouse gas emissions are largely caused by energy production and the impacts of industrial sectors on the climate.
2053 Net Zero Emission Target
Our Minister Mr. Murat Kurum said that they are moving forward with determination towards the 2053 net zero emission target and that they are working towards a cleaner world with the Zero Waste Movement. He also added that they aim to increase the recycling rate to 60% by 2035.
Green Transformation in Energy and Industry
Mr. Murat Kurum stated that they will increase the share of renewable energy in electricity production to 65% by 2035, and emphasized that regulations regarding the Emission Trading System and carbon credits have been made, and that the private sector will be supported in every area during the green transformation process.
