The second meeting of the Turkish-German Climate and Environment Steering Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister Fatma Varank. During the meeting, attended by the Turkish delegation led by Deputy Minister Varank, ongoing and potential cooperation between Türkiye and Germany on climate change, environment, and biodiversity was discussed.
The German delegation was headed by Parliamentary State Secretary Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter. The discussions highlighted key issues such as Türkiye’s 2053 Net Zero Emission target, the new Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the enactment of the Climate Law, the Green Taxonomy and Emissions Trading System studies, as well as COP30 and Türkiye’s candidacy for COP31. Joint projects on the Climate Club, climate finance, industrial decarbonization, Zero Waste, and digitalization were also evaluated.
The meeting was also attended by President of Climate Change Prof. Dr. Halil Hasar, Director General for EU and Foreign Affairs İsmail Tüzgen, Director General for the Protection of Natural Assets Hacı Abdullah Uçan, President of the Turkish Environment Agency Nurullah Öztürk, and Deputy Director General Ali Erhan Yılmaz.
