The Workshop on Innovative Retrofitting and Energy Efficiency Engineering Approaches was held in Ankara in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, General Directorate of Construction Works and the World Bank.
Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Mr. Refik Tuzcuoğlu made the opening speech of the workshop, which was held with the participation of scientists, experts and bureaucrats. In the workshop where earthquake resistance and energy efficiency issues were discussed, World Bank Turkey Infrastructure Program Leader and Chief Energy Specialist Stephan Garnier, General Manager of Construction Works Mrs. Banu Aslan, Director General of European Union and Foreign Relations Asst.Prof.Dr. Hüseyin Bayraktar, Director General of Environmental Management Mr. Recep Akdeniz, Director General of Vocational Services Mr. Murat Oral, Director General of Combating Desertification and Erosion Mr. Nurettin Taş were present.
40 Percent Energy Savings Achieved in Public Buildings
Referring to the Earthquake Resistance and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings (KADEV) Project carried out by the Ministry, Mr. Tuzcuoğlu said in his speech that 318 of 565 public buildings have been made energy efficient and 40 percent energy savings have been achieved. Reminding that Turkey is an earthquake country and that there are more than 500 active faults in the country, Mr. Tuzcuoğlu emphasized that this brings with it serious risks, and stated that approximately 100 thousand people lost their lives in earthquakes in the last century. Stating that there was a great loss in the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş that occurred on February 6, Mr. Tuzcuoğlu said, "We have now established the largest urban planning construction site in the world with the work we have done as a ministry over the great Kahramanmaraş earthquake we have experienced."
"Zero Waste Project Has Become a World Brand"
Referring to the work carried out by the Ministry, Mr. Tuzcuoğlu noted that Türkiye is a party to the Paris Agreement and that studies are carried out in accordance with it. Mr. Tuzcuoğlu also touched upon the Zero Waste Project, which was launched under the auspices of Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and added that the project has become a world brand.
